Those giant Cerwin-Vega HED line of speakers sounded lousy sitting on a bare floor when you cranked 'em? Put 'em on a speaker stand, or an upside-down fibreglass milk crate...different story? Similarly, a nice little Celestion bookshelf speaker won't sound that great if it is placed on it's side, up close to the ceiling? So there is no argument that speaker stands make your speakers sound better. They make your speakers look cooler too, don't they? Speaker stands introduce another big problem. Light flimsy speaker stands end up attracting a lot of mechanical vibration from the speakers they're holding and only serve to transfer that mechanical vibration to the floor. Today, I'm going to show you a few pairs of speakers stands in my collection. We'll start off with the cheapest and flimsiest wooden speaker stands, then we'll move onto particle board speakers stands, them metal speaker stands and finally conclude with my flagship speaker stand that didn't even start off it's 50-year old life as a speaker stand in the first place!
